Things have been pretty hectic around the Velez household over the last month or so. It’s just that time of year where everything seems to happen at once – a First Communion, a Confirmation, track meets and 2 dance recitals! Life keeps us busy and it’s so important for us to take a moment to reflect and celebrate our loved ones. Photography gives me that opportunity through my clients who share their weddings, friends, families & lifestyles – and a recent first for me…. a newborn.

Molly was 2 weeks old when I shot these photos earlier this month. I’ve worked with children & toddlers in the past but it was my first time working with a newborn (except as the excited father of my own 2 little girls). Her parents were as excited as I was and gave me the opportunity to be as creative as I wanted to be. We carefully scheduled the session during Molly’s regular nap time. I had visions of a baby who would sleep peacefully through the whole process – but Molly was excited about her first photoshoot as well and remained wide awake for most of it. We had a great time and went with the flow as she let us know what she liked and didn’t like – and gave us some beautiful shots in the process.

Fun with Oliver

Baby Oliver was the perfect little gentleman and made my job so much easier. These photos were shot at the time of day when we knew Oliver would be wide awake & ready to play – the whole session was completed in under 45 minutes (including a quick snack & 3 wardrobe changes!). We’ve learned that consulting with our little model’s parents is crucial in determining when or even where to schedule a session. The information we got from mom in this case worked to perfection.

Holidays over already?!

It’s hard to believe that it’s over already. We had a great time working (and playing) with all of our new friends this past year and learned & experienced so much in the process. The new year will have its challenges as always but we look forward to continue learning & growing with you in 2010 – Now let’s have some fun!

We had the family over to celebrate my mother in-law’s birthday a few days ago and it was the perfect opportunity to test out some new toys, uh, I mean equipment. Everyone had such a great time that we’re looking to start booking more Portrait Parties like this very soon. I should add that I probably had the most fun as the new equipment testing was a success!
